GHANA: Mahama unveils running mate today

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to officially unveil his running mate for the 2020 presidential elections today [July 6, 2020].

When the National Executive Committee (NEC) meets today at 11 am, Mr Mahama is expected to present his choice of the running mate to the committee.

The choice of a running mate has been closely kept as a secret with analyst saying this has been one exercise that Mahama has kept his cards closely to his chest.

Names which have been making rounds includes that of the former Education Minister, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, a former Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr Isaac Bannerman Nii Moi Thompson, a former Minister of Health and Deputy Campaign Manager for the 2020 elections, Mr Alex Segbefia or a former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor as well as that of Mr Leslie Tamakloe, an IT expert and a business consultant.

Other candidates

The names of possible candidates such as ex-Finance Minister, Prof. Kwesi Botchway, the former boss of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST), Mr Kwame Awuah Darko, former Interior and Agriculture Minister, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, former Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) as well as the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Alex Mould, were also in the basket and on the lips of political analyst.
