Zlatan Calls Himself God …Mata
As you might imagine, after signing on a free transfer last summer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic wasted little time asserting himself on his first day at Manchester United.
As recalled by teammate Juan Mata, the Swede didn’t let nerves get the better of him on his arrival and instead set about striking fear into the hearts of United’s kit men.
“The day he arrived, we were away on preseason, so he was on his own with the kit men at the training ground,” Mata told FourFourTwo magazine.
“They had never met him before and he’s the sort of guy that garners instant respect because of the way he carries himself.
“Zlatan apparently looked the kit men up and down and said: ‘I hope you know God has arrived.’
“The kit men were shaking and didn’t know what to think, then he fell about laughing with them. He always does that.”
Ibrahimovic went on to score 28 goals in 46 appearances for United in his debut season before having his involvement in a Europa League-winning campaign prematurely curtailed by a nasty knee injury suffered back in April.
We guess even gods succumb to the wrath of the dodgy cruciate ligament from time to time.
